The London 2012 Games commences on 27 July and concludes on 12 August. The Paralympic Games commences on 29 August and concludes on 9 September. Royal Mail will commemorate London’s hosting of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games by issuing three sets of 10 x 1st Class stamps in the run up to the London 2012 Games in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
A limited number of FDCs was produced with the Much Wenlock operational counter date stamp. Because these are operational datestamps and not over-inked, the impression is not as dark as one might have hoped but it is clear. We understand that only two dealers produced these covers and the numbers are probably less than 30. Much Wenlock in Shropshire (or Salop) is the home of the Wenlock Olympian Society which honours Dr William Penny Brookes who founded the modern Olympian Games in 1850 and who was the inspiration behind the re-birth of the modern Olympic Games in 1896.
