British Army Uniforms First Day Ceremony at Autumn Stampex - 20 September 2007

At Autumn Stampex at London's Business Design Centre, there was an informal ceremony to advertise a cachet cover which Royal Mail produced in conjunction with the British Forces Post Office (BFPO). The BFPO arranged for some Chelsea Pensioners to be at their stand at the show.

At the launch of the British Army Uniforms stamp issue, Chelsea Pensioners and Royal Mail Stamps Director David Walker with Brigadier Mike Hickson OBE show the special cachet cover produced with the BFPO.

The participants in the ceremony signed several covers as souvenirs. Two different covers are shown in the picture. The one held by David Walker is the BFPO FDC, the one held by Brig Hickson is the joint Royal Mail/BFPO cover for this issue:

This is a pre-issue image and I believe the Land Rover image was different on the actual covers, which were carried from the UK to a base in Germany through the Channel Tunnel, and the cachet records this. The carried covers are £9.99 each.
