The Assembly Building (the Senedd) for the National Assembly for Wales will be opened by Her Majesty the Queen on 1 March 2006, the National Day of Wales (St David's Day). The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will also attend the opening. The event will be commemorated by Royal Mail by the issue of a miniature sheet of Wales Definitive stamps. The border of the miniature sheet shows a detail from the roof of the new Welsh Assembly building facing Cardiff Bay designed by the Richard Rogers Partnership.
The National Assembly for Wales consists of 60 Members elected throughout Wales. The Assembly has delegated many of its powers to the First Minister, who leads the Welsh Assembly Government.
This is not regarded as a new issue by Royal Mail as the stamps have all been issued previously, but a commemorative envelope and special postmarks will be available.
We are grateful to photographer Alex Kabinski for his permission to use the pictures of the Assembly Building on this page and on our FDC.
All stamp and postmark images are copyright 2005/6, Royal Mail.
