New Machin definitive & Country stamps - 31 March 2009

Postage rate changes which take effect from 6 April - mostly over 10% - will require several new stamps. The basic inland rates will rise, 1st from 36p to 39p & 2nd class from 27p to 30p. There will be no 39p or 30p stamps as these rates are satisfied by the existing 1st class gold and 2nd class blue. The 'balancing' 9p in orange continues in use.

The basic rates for Large Letters increase from 52p to 61p (1st class) and from 42p to 47p (2nd class). A new 17p olive-green stamp will be used for the 2nd class difference between basic letters and Large Letters (47p-30p). A new 22p stone coloured stamp will be used for the 1st class difference (61p-39p). The Recorded Delivery fee increases to 75p.

International rates also rise at this time:

Basic Europe rate 20gr and postcards: +6p to 56p - use existing 56p sage green stamp from 2008, (earlier 'E' rate stamps still valid). New country stamps.

Basic Worldwide rate  10gr and postcards: +6p to 62p - new stamp 62p red.

Worldwide 20gr rate:  +9p to 90p, new 90p ultramarine and country stamps.

Worldwide 40gr rate: £1.35 up by 13p. This should also be satisfied by the airmail NVI, sold in books of 4 (£5.40 per book).

The Surface mail 20gr rate is increased from 48p to 54p, this will should be served by the 54p issued in 2007.

New Country Stamps valued 56p and 90p will also be issued for England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales in existing designs.
