To
satisfy an operational demand at Post Office counters, Royal Mail has
produced two new definitive NVI stamps for Special Delivery letters up
to 100gr and up to 500gr. These will be useful for business
users who send high volumes of special delivery letters, and should
save processing time.
From the collecting point of
view, it will be interesting to see just
how quickly these appear on the market as properly commercially used
examples. The similar Recorded
Signed
For stamps issued last
year have not been very plentiful. Likewise for first day
covers, should you collect both stamps on one Royal Mail fdc with a
special handstamp, or single stamps on either FDCs, plain envelopes or
Royal Mail Special Delivery envelopes, with the proper bar-code labels
and operational counter date stamps?

The stamps will initially be sold for £5.05 and £5.50 respectively. The images supplied appear to show self-adhesive stamps with security overprint (including MA10) but no security slits. Further details when we get supplies.
The new definitive stamps will be printed by De La Rue in gravure, size 24mm x 24mm, ie 4mm wider than the basic stamps in both cases, in sheets of 25 with two self-adhesive bars.
Special postmarks available on the day of issue will be shown here. (These images are not to scale)
